Virama House
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Virama House is a private residence in KBP, Bandung, conceived as a second home for a couple seeking a quiet retreat from daily routines. Set on a 350 m² site, the architecture is designed as a place of pause, where spatial clarity and natural surroundings come together to create a calm and restorative environment. The house balances openness and intimacy through a carefully structured layout, allowing each space to feel connected yet composed. Framed views toward surrounding greenery and a distant bridge establish a continuous dialogue between the built form and its landscape.

Architecture

The design is rooted in the idea of stillness, reflected in the name Virama. It brings together Tropical Modernism and Indonesian cultural sensibilities, creating an architecture that feels both grounded and contemporary. Clean lines and simple volumes are softened by natural materials and subtle cultural references. The intention is to create a home that feels familiar and timeless, where every element supports quiet reflection and a sense of belonging.

THE SPACE
Spatial planning emphasizes fluid movement and clarity. A direct pathway from the entrance leads toward the rear garden, allowing circulation to function independently from the main living areas. This approach simplifies daily use while preserving the calm of interior spaces. Public areas are oriented to capture natural light and landscape views, while private zones are positioned to offer seclusion and rest.
Openings are carefully placed to frame greenery and distant vistas, bringing movement and depth into the interior without disrupting its tranquility.Indoor and outdoor spaces are integrated seamlessly, creating a continuous spatial experience. Each transition is deliberate, guiding movement while maintaining a quiet and balanced atmosphere throughout the house.

THE FEEL
The architecture expresses warmth and restraint through material and form. Natural textures and soft light create an environment that feels calm and grounded, while subtle cultural elements introduce depth and familiarity. The house unfolds as a place of retreat, where space, light, and material come together to support a slower, more deliberate way of living. The result is an architecture that feels timeless, composed, and deeply connected to its surroundings.
