Verdura House
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Verdura House is a private residence in Bandung designed as a breathable living environment, where architecture and landscape are continuously intertwined. Set on an elongated site measuring 15 by 41 meters, the project responds to both spatial density and environmental intention, shaping a home that feels open, layered, and connected to nature despite its compact frontage.

Architecture

The design is guided by the idea of permeability. Openings, voids, and gardens are not treated as secondary elements, but as integral parts of the architecture. Multiple green voids are introduced at different levels, allowing vegetation, light, and air to move vertically through the house. This creates a continuous relationship between interior and exterior, where nature is experienced from multiple points within the home.
To balance the depth of the site, the building is divided into three primary masses. A front volume, a central bridge, and a rear service block establish a sequence that breaks the linearity of the plan. This approach prevents the house from feeling enclosed or monotonous, replacing a singular corridor experience with a series of connected spatial moments.

THE SPACE
Circulation is anchored at the center of the house, where a vertical core connects all levels. A bridge links the front and rear masses, forming a transitional space that frames views into internal gardens and voids. Movement through the house becomes a progression of light, greenery, and shifting perspectives. Horizontality defines the architectural expression. Floor plates, openings, and façade elements are aligned to emphasize width rather than height, creating a sense of visual expansion.
This is reinforced through material transitions, where darker, textured surfaces at the base gradually shift into lighter tones and timber elements above, reducing the perceived scale of the building. A key spatial intervention occurs at the entrance, where a transparent koi pond replaces part of the upper slab. This element allows natural light to penetrate into the lower level while introducing movement and reflection into the space, connecting both floors through water, light, and visual continuity.

THE FEEL
The architecture is calm yet dynamic. Light, shadow, and natural elements animate the interiors, while the massing remains composed and grounded. The integration of gardens and water softens the built form, creating an environment that feels alive and responsive.
Verdura House is defined not by enclosure, but by its ability to breathe. Each space maintains a connection to air, light, and landscape, resulting in a residence that feels open, fluid, and deeply attuned to its surroundings.\
