Onchae House

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Onchae House is a private residence completed in 2025 in Kota Baru Parahyangan, set on a 647 square meter site with a total built area of 1,260 square meters. Conceived as a calm sanctuary, the architecture responds to a family seeking simplicity, clarity, and a slower rhythm of living.

The design begins with restraint. From the street, the house presents a quiet and minimal presence, deliberately holding back. Beyond this threshold, the architecture unfolds through a carefully composed sequence, where space, light, and proportion gradually reveal themselves.

THE VISION

THE VISION

The architectural approach is grounded in honesty and reduction. Rather than relying on expressive forms, the design focuses on balance, proportion, and the emotional quality of space.

Natural light becomes the primary medium. It moves through the house, shaping surfaces and defining the atmosphere throughout the day. The intention is not to impress, but to create a sense of ease. A home where stillness is valued, and where architecture supports meaningful daily life.

THE SPACE

The spatial experience is defined by transition and rhythm. Movement through the house is never abrupt. It is guided through a sequence of layered zones, from the open terrace to the more introspective foyer, and into the central living areas.

Each space holds its own character while remaining connected. Openings are positioned to frame light and views, while maintaining privacy. The planning allows the family to gather naturally, without excess or distraction, creating an environment that feels both open and grounded.

THE FEEL

Onchae, meaning a warm and welcoming home, is expressed through atmosphere rather than ornament. Light, shadow, and proportion create a quiet richness that evolves throughout the day.

The house feels composed yet deeply human. It is a place where architecture recedes into the background, allowing life, conversation, and presence to take focus. The result is a home that is serene, intimate, and enduring.
