North Pine
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Nestled within an established pine forest, North Pine House is a residence that explores the balance between architectural clarity and environmental sensitivity. The project is defined by a careful integration with its natural surroundings, where existing mature trees are preserved as central elements of the design. The house reflects a dialogue between modern spatial thinking and a more timeless architectural presence, resulting in a home that feels both grounded and intentional.

Architecture

The architecture is guided by the idea of coexistence. Rather than reshaping the landscape, the design adapts to it, allowing the pine grove to define both spatial organization and experience. The home is conceived as a series of volumes placed within the forest, where light, air, and views are continuously filtered through the trees.
A balance is established between openness and protection. While the house embraces transparency through large openings and connections to outdoor spaces, it maintains a composed and controlled architectural expression.

THE SPACE
The building is organized into two primary levels, structured around both function and environmental orientation. The ground floor accommodates the main living functions, including an expansive living, dining, and pantry area that opens directly to the surrounding decking and pine grove. Large sliding glass panels dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior, allowing the forest to become an extension of the living space. The entrance sequence is defined by a double-height volume,
where a sculptural staircase and a full-height glass façade introduce natural light deep into the house. A reflective pool beneath the stairs reinforces the connection between architecture and landscape. Private spaces are carefully positioned. The master bedroom sits on the ground level, oriented toward the pool and central outdoor area, while the upper floor houses secondary bedrooms and a more intimate family living space. Bridges and voids maintain visual continuity, ensuring the house remains connected across levels.

THE FEEL
The architectural language draws from Modern Scandinavian and barn house principles. Steep gable roofs and clean geometric forms define the silhouette, while the absence of overhangs emphasizes a precise and minimal expression. Materiality reinforces a connection to place. Timber cladding introduces warmth, while dark standing-seam metal, textured plaster, and stone provide contrast and durability. The overall composition feels calm and grounded, allowing the surrounding pine forest to remain the dominant presence.
