Grande House

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Grande House is a private residence in Bandung, set across a 1,100 m² site with a total built area of 1,456 m². Conceived as a holistic architectural and interior undertaking, the project explores the balance between scale and sensitivity, responding to its expansive frontage while addressing the realities of a dense urban environment. The home unfolds as a series of interconnected volumes, carefully positioned to maintain privacy, security, and a sense of openness within its surroundings.

THE VISION

THE VISION

The interior design was guided by the intention to achieve grandeur without excess and openness without exposure. Rather than relying on singular gestures, the approach embraces layering, allowing architecture, materials, and landscape to operate in quiet cohesion. Each element is part of a larger system that mediates light, air, and privacy, creating an environment that feels composed, intentional, and seamlessly integrated.

THE SPACE

Horizontally expressed and anchored by a 56-meter façade, the interior spaces reflect the same layered approach as the exterior. Perforated metal screens, sun-shading louvers, textured stone, and integrated greenery create a threshold that softens transitions between indoor and outdoor areas, letting light and air flow naturally while preserving seclusion.

Inside, open communal areas coexist with private, detached spaces, each with direct access to gardens, patios, and balconies. Circulation is intuitive, balancing fluid movement with distinct zones. Subtle design features, including multi-layered entrances and a dual-boundary strategy, provide security without compromising openness or connection to the surroundings.

THE EXPERIENCE

Grande House is experienced with quiet clarity. Light filters gently through layered elements, creating a soft, diffused atmosphere throughout the day, while natural airflow carries a calm that reduces the need for mechanical intervention. Water features and greenery introduce subtle shifts in temperature and mood, grounding the interiors in their environment.

The home reveals a rhythm that feels deliberate yet relaxed. Its character emerges not from dramatic statements but from the effortless support it provides for daily life, offering spaces that are cool, composed, and intimately connected to their surroundings.
