Biota Resort
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Completed in 2025 on Maratua Island, Biota Resort is envisioned as a seaside sanctuary where architecture quietly coexists with nature. Spanning one hectare of pristine land with a total built area of 2000 m², the resort is composed of three distinct typologies: Water Villas suspended above the sea, Land Villas nestled within dense greenery, and Glamping Tents positioned lightly between forest and sky. Each element is carefully placed to preserve the site’s natural integrity while shaping a seamless connection between land, water, and built form.

Architecture

The architecture is guided by a simple intention: to let nature lead. Rather than dominating the landscape, the design respects the duality of ocean and forest, allowing both to remain visually and ecologically uninterrupted. Built forms are reduced, elevated, and dispersed to minimize footprint. This approach ensures the island’s natural rhythm continues undisturbed. The resort becomes a framework that allows guests to experience Maratua as it is, untouched and expansive.

THE SPACE
Spatial planning follows the natural contours and existing clearings of the site. Water Villas extend gently over the lagoon, supported by stilts that preserve tidal flow and marine life below. Land Villas are carefully inserted within forest pockets, maintaining mature trees and creating private retreats immersed in greenery.
Glamping Tents occupy elevated platforms, offering a lighter architectural footprint while enhancing the sense of immersion. Circulation paths weave organically across the site, guiding movement without disrupting the terrain while framing curated views toward the sea, canopy, and horizon.

THE FEEL
The architectural language draws from the surrounding ecosystem. Soft, curved rooflines echo marine forms such as jellyfish and shells. The massing reflects the grounded presence of coastal fauna. Natural materials such as timber, woven textures, and locally sourced finishes anchor the buildings within their environment. The result is an architecture that feels both intentional and effortless. Structure dissolves into landscape, and each space is defined by wind, light, and the rhythm of the sea.
