PROJECT DESCRIPTION
In the heart of Bandung, Madja Boarding House reimagines communal living through architecture that bridges culture and modernity. Its open-plan design celebrates West Java’s identity while offering a welcoming home for residents from across the region. Every spatial decision reflects a careful balance between functionality, comfort, and cultural expression, ensuring the building is both efficient and emotionally resonant.

At the center of the building lies a soaring communal hub, defined by a semi-outdoor void crowned with a single majestic tree. This living element infuses daily life with nature, light, and air, connecting private rooms to a serene central space. Large façade openings and skylights enhance natural ventilation and daylighting, reducing reliance on artificial climate control. Birds often visit, creating subtle connections between residents and the surrounding ecosystem, enriching the sense of place.
THE STRUCTURE
Durability and efficiency guided every structural choice. Concrete spans, locally sourced brick, and terrazzo combine simplicity with resilience. Bathrooms are strategically positioned along building edges, isolating potential leaks and streamlining maintenance.
Thoughtful mass planning and material selection maximize functional density, delivering numerous rooms without compromising comfort, while minimizing energy consumption and long-term operational costs.
