Dago Escape Villa

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Dago Escape is a private villa completed in 2025 in the highlands of Dago Pakar, conceived as a retreat for a Jakarta-based family seeking distance from the intensity of urban life. Set on a steep 30-degree slope, the architecture transforms a challenging topography into the defining character of the home.

Rather than reshaping the land, the villa is elevated on a stilted structure, preserving the natural contours of the hillside. This approach minimizes intervention while allowing the building to sit lightly within its environment, creating the impression of a dwelling suspended among trees and layered vegetation.

THE VISION

THE VISION

The architectural vision is grounded in climate responsiveness and the experience of landscape. The cool air of North Bandung and the expansive hillside views become central to how the villa is shaped and lived.

Semi-outdoor terraces extend the living spaces outward, encouraging a lifestyle that moves fluidly between interior and exterior. The layout is carefully oriented so that every primary space faces the panorama, allowing the horizon to remain present throughout the day. The design is quiet and restrained, focusing on atmosphere rather than expression.

THE SPACE

Spatial composition follows the slope, creating a layered arrangement of terraces, decks, and interior volumes. Circulation flows naturally between levels, guided by changes in elevation and framed views. The stilted platforms allow outdoor spaces to extend beyond the footprint of the building, forming intimate pockets for gathering, rest, and reflection

Vegetation is integrated directly into these layers, softening edges and reinforcing the connection between architecture and landscape. Each space is positioned to balance openness with a sense of shelter, allowing the villa to feel both expansive and grounded.

THE FEEL

Dago Escape offers a sense of calm detachment. The architecture feels light, open, and deeply connected to its surroundings, where air, light, and greenery move freely through the space. The experience is both contemplative and immersive, capturing the essence of a hillside retreat. What began as a private residence evolves naturally into a place of shared escape, where the simplicity of design allows the landscape to take focus.
